Genus Hypholoma

GENUS HYPHOLOMA

This genus has brown spores, and no volva at the base of the stem. The veil remains as a fringe attached to the margin of the pileus, but is not always apparent in old specimens; no portion remains as a ring on the stem.

The gills are attached or grown fast to the stem at their inner extremity. In this respect, and also in having the stern destitute of a collar, the genus differs from the genus Agaricus.
