Ironwood or Inkwood Tree

Ironwood or Inkwood TreeThe Ironwood, or Inkwood (Exothea paniculata, Radlk.), grows on the southeast coast of Florida.

It is a small tree whose hard red wood is used for piles and boats, because it seems to be immune from the attacks of the ship-worm. Its leaves have 2 to 4 oval leaflets. The minute flowers are in panicles, and the fruit is a juicy, 1-seeded, purple berry.
