Mexican Dropseed Grass
Meadow Muhlenbergia. Mexican Dropseed. bergia mexicana (L.) Trin.Perennial, from creeping rootstocks.
Stem 1 1/2-3 1/2 ft. tall, smooth, wiry, much branched, erect or spreading. Ligule less than 1" long. Leaves 3'-8' long, 1 "-4" wide, roughish.
Panicle 2'-6' long, narrow, many-flowered. Spikelets 1-flowered, 1"-1 1/2" long, green or bluish purple. Scales 3; outer scales acute, slightly unequal; flowering scale acute. Stamens 3. An exceedingly variable species.
Damp soil and in shaded places. August and September.
New Brunswick to Ontario, south to North Carolina and Oklahoma.
